Lokta Paper

Making Lokta Paper is an entirely manual process from collecting the Lokta bark and preparing the paper pulp through to making each sheet on a muslin screen. Natural vegetation can optionally be added at that stage before the paper is left to dry in the sun.

The paper has a natural uncut edge and can be made to a variety of thicknesses from the semi transparent lightweight sheets used in the albums through to heavyweight 120gsm card.

Lokta paper is extremely durable, resistant to water and has natural resistance to insects and is used in government offices in Nepal for all official documents.

The paper is popular for use as craft paper, for wedding stationery, scrapbooking and for use in art projects, as well as making beautiful giftwrap.

A variety of natural colourings can be used to dye the paper including walnut shell, rhubarb, pomegranite, chestnut and saffron.
